Interviewer: What do you do in your free time?
Sophia: Honestly, I sleep for a majority of the weekend. A lot of people joke around about this, but Friday and Saturday night I get about 13 hours of sleep each night. I honestly believe there is no better feeling than waking up at noon on a weekend. Interviewer: How do you cope with stress? Sophia: In order to balance out my stressful school life, I like to surround myself with positive people and do memorable things with them. I do this not only to cope with stress, but also because I want to look back at high school and see it as a time where I did something other than homework. Interviewer: How do you manage your time? Sophia: I have found that the busier my schedule is, the better I am at staying on top of things. When I know I have a lot to do during the week, I get ahead as much as I can during open periods and advisement. On the other hand, if I only have a handful of assignment due that week I have the bad habit of putting assignments off until the night before. Interviewer: How do you stay focused on your ambitions? Sophia: The time I was most focused on my goals is when I immersed myself in the career I hope to join. During the year I shadowed Dr. Kaufman at his orthopedic practice, I had a constant reminder of what I was working towards and in turn motivated me to do well in school. Interviewer: Any advice for underclassmen? Sophia: I think that many students get caught up on doing things that look good on college applications and while this is an important factor to keep in mind, you shouldn't micromanage your life around an acceptance letter. Don't play it safe because you are afraid to live. Instead, make every day an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone because these experiences are often the most memorable and the time of most growth.
